Clara Bernice Tollefson, 90, died June 12, 2012 in Abilene, Kansas. She was born in rural Horton, Kansas on July 1, 1921, the daughter of Homer and Esther (Campion) Pittington.
She attended Corner View Grade School and graduated from Powhattan High School with the class of 1939.
She married Lloyd M. Tollefson on June 27, 1941. To this union, three children were born. They farmed near the communities of Willis, Bendena and Everest. Clara loved entertaining family and friends, traveling, playing cards, raising beautiful flowers and gardening. Throughout the years, she worked in sales, production and accounting positions. She was active in her church, extension and 4-H programs. Survivors include her son, Mark (Chelley) of Wichita; her daughter, Sandy Sleichter (Jerry) of Abilene; her daughter-in-law, Judy of Horton; her sister, Fern Moore of Superior, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, April 18, 2001, her son, Jere Jo, her granddaughter, Melissa Rogers and five great grandchildren, Makenah, Zachary, Nicholas and Alenah Rogers and Rhett Sleichter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Horton, Kansas with visitation at 1:00 p.m.. Burial will be at the Wheatland Cemetery.
